Mizzou is considered the nation's top journalism school because we as students are pushed to do tasks beyond our interest areas. During my classes, I was assigned to do extensive projects such as radio stories and broadcast-style TV spots.
Matt Giesen, Montgomery Fire Department
Volunteer firefighter Matt Giesen has been working for Montgomery and Countryside Fire Protection District in Montgomery, Illinois for over a year. The part time department responds to fire and medic calls, as well as responding to mutual aid for other departments in the area. Giesen spends a lot of his free time training in aspects of fire rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) such as forced entry, timed bunker gear donning, practice house burns, reading over EMS protocol, writing call logs and doing engine checks to ensure that the trucks and rigs are all in working order.
Central Missouri All Stars
The Central Missouri All Stars cheerleading team, owned and coached by Morgan Sapp, trains hard year round to win competitions and gain cheerleading and life experience. Sapp instills her cheerleaders with skills that they can take forward into their future, such as respect and timeliness. The CMAS currently has 110 cheerleaders in total, with 45 on their elite competition team.
